Porto Augusto's Vintage 2000
Vineyard
Plots of vineyards located on the steep slopes of the Pinhão River, at an altitude between 150 and 400m, with a soil of shale origin, poor and rugged; low production, high concentration and quality of grapes.
Harvest 2000
Dry winter, with 40% less rain. Hot February and March, rain in April and May. Some rain from June to August. Slow maturation: harvest delayed two weeks. In September, temperature hovering around 40°C.
Winemaking
Fresh grapes and at their ideal ripening point, picked by hand for 20kg boxes. After desengace and gentle crushing, the grapes were placed in stainless steel vat, pelicular macerated for five days. These fermented for five days, with three "delestage" daily, being in macerated after-waiting for another three days. Hence resulted in a wine of excellent extract. This aged in old French oak balseiros. Blend was made in March 2003.
